Kirby made his debut on the Game Boy with Kirby’s Dream Land back in 1992. The little pink ball quickly stole fans’ hearts and has since been a staple on many of Nintendo’s consoles. The series is still going strong to this day with Kirby: Star Allies on the Switch, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to come out in late March. The new title is sure to bring some wonderful new music to Kirby’s library, which may be performed live at the anniversary concert.

The “Kirby 30th Anniversary Music Fest” has been announced by the official Kirby social media channels, which will not only be a live concert held at Japan’s Tokyo Garden Theater but will also be livestreamed to YouTube for overseas fans for free. The concert promises to deliver the series’ songs as performed by a “big-band style ensemble” made up of 35 musicians, with Kirby himself participating in real-time on an LED monitor, dancing around as fans celebrate his birthday.
The concert is currently scheduled to take place on August 11, with details such as where to watch and even more to be announced soon, as Marx can be found in a “special” section that currently says “coming soon.” Fans should heed the warning on the website, however, that lets visitors know that the event is keeping Japan’s current COVID-19 restrictions in mind, and any spread of the virus may lead to the event possibly being postponed or canceled if the situation worsens between now and August.
However, that notice is only there to keep fans aware of what the event is doing to protect its performers, as other performances in Japan haven’t seen any delays as of late. In general, this is a great step forward for Kirby’s anniversary, as previous Kirby-related celebrations never made it to overseas audiences.
However, some of the event seems to be remaining Japan-exclusive. Switching the website from English to Japanese reveals that fans not only get to attend in person but will have select windows to preorder merchandise themed to the concert such as lightsticks and towels. Despite that, the concert promises to be a fun experience for Kirby loyalists around the globe.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land releases on March 25 for Nintendo Switch.
