With so much excitement around Kingdom Hearts 3, it’s no surprise that gamers are consistently requesting additional information from the game’s creators. That persistence seems to have done some good, as Kingdom Hearts’ series director, Tetsuya Nomura, has recently shared a couple updates about the game, including a recent statement about online multiplayer for Kingdom Hearts 3.
When speaking with Engadget, Nomura provided this update:
It seems the team at Square Enix understands the power an online multiplayer mode has in driving gamers to spend more time in a game, which in turn helps sell more copies of said game. Strong sales also increase interest in future content, like DLC and spin-offs, which is likely on the minds of the Kingdom Hearts 3 team.
However, online multiplayer modes can be a double-edged sword. If they aren’t done well, or cause a developer to slack on a game’s single-player campaign, then the experience is brought down as a whole. And with a fan base as large as the one supporting Kingdom Hearts any misstep could prove disastrous.
Fortunately, this is something Nomura seems to understand, and he made sure to mention that in his interview.
That way of thinking is sure to excite Kingdom Hearts fans as it looks like Square Enix will provide not only a single-player campaign worthy of the Kingdom Hearts name, but also an opportunity for gamers to engage and play together in the exciting, colorful game world.
Considering the idea is still new for Square Enix, and nothing has even been tested yet, it’s safe to say any additional information on Kingdom Hearts 3’s online multiplayer is a ways off. Square Enix seemingly has far more pressing matters to attend to, including Final Fantasy 15’s looming release and the recently announced Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
