Kevin Pietersen, arguably one of the most talented batsmen in the present generation, is in the danger of being left out from the England side. The issue about him messaging the South African players’ and comments about his own team mates have put his career in danger. Asking ECB to probe on his teammates Swann and Anderson for the fake twitter accounts seems to have worsened the situation further. With the T20 World Cup coming up, England is close to losing their best batsman, due to disciplinary action of all reasons. His latest exclusion from the list of ECB contracted players is more baffling.
This is not the first time KP had to face disciplinary action from ECB. KP retired from One-day internationals last season aiming to focus on tests. However, ECB declared earlier that KP will not be in T20 squad unless he plays the 50-over format. Just when things looked optimistic for his inclusion in T20 squad, KP has found himself in new trouble…this one due to his own making perhaps.
Some former cricketers (read Gavaskar), have even raised doubts about KP and suggested he exclude himself from International cricket (for 4 years as per ICCs rule) and play for South Africa later on. That looks far from a reasonable solution to this rift but things need to be sorted out quickly. Cricket has seen very few batsmen as talented as Pietersen and how his career proceeds now is up to him. Cricket fans though would love to see his switch shots and aggressive batting display in this T20 World Cup even if it takes an apology from KP.
Talks are being scheduled as of now between Pietersen and ECB. As a cricket fan, I hope the differences get sorted out and we get to see some aggressive batting on the flat, bowlers nightmare, highway road-like Sri Lankan pitches.
